Occupancy Data Collection

The occupancy data has been collected from two holiday accommodations and one statistic database which are:

1.    Lagnakeil Lodges, Oban

** Energy consumption data per lodge throughout the year has also been collected from Lagnakeil holiday accommodation, Oban.

2.    Strathyre Forest Cabins, Strathyre

3.    Tourism in Southern Scotland 2009, Visit Scotland

The occupancy data collected from the three sources was divided into two groups.

a. Timber self-catering lodges/ cabins in Northern Scotland

b. Self-catering flats, chalets, cottages, bungalows, lodges, cabin in the Scottish Borders

The data collected from both holiday accommodations was in terms of number of bed nights per week from March 2010 to February 2011. However, the data from Visit Scotland (2009 one-year statistics for self-catering accommodation occupancy in the Scottish Borders) were in percentage of total occupancy. It is important to highlight that in order to convert these percentages to bed nights per month, it was assumed that any house would be fully occupied or unoccupied because the Scottish Borders self-catering accommodation would be more suitable for leisure-seeking visitors as families with children including grand-parents instead of business people. Hence we will work with bed nights per month in further calculations.
